V.G. Vaze College- Report for 7 days N.S.S. residential camp at MURBAD

We had our camp in "Murbad". It was really a new experience. The camp site was different and had a positive atmosphere around it. We volunteers were exposed to clean & fresh environment which we lack in our city life. We got to learn new values & new knowledge. Every day we used to wake up by 5:30am and report sharp at 06:00am. From 06:00-07:30am we had our warm up, exercise and meditation. At 7:30am breakfast and sharp at 08:00am we started our field work which lasted till 12:00pm or even after that depending on the completion of the target. Meanwhile the cleaning committee used to clean the camp area and return to field work at 09:30am. After field work, we all had some rest and have our Lunch by 12:30pm. From 1:00-2:00pm we had our refreshing time. Various lectures were held from 2:00-5:30pm. After a tea break of 15 minutes, we all used to fall in and start our cultural event which included mainly street play and other cultural activities. At 9:00pm we had our dinner followed by some time for report writing and light off sharp at 10:00pm.

We were allotted various groups such as cultural committee, kitchen committee & cleaning committee. In field work, we were given the work to prepare a road by cleaning it & leveling it by putting stones & mud. There we got to learn what unity is & how to utilize time in order to complete the work in time. We all supported each other & completed the work in time. While working in committees we all worked together & got to learn various new things which we usually don't do at home. During field work, we got a great knowledge about how to plant saplings & we worked & helped in making saplings. We prepared 500 saplings.

We had various new lectures on environment, leadership & meditation by various experts .we had a lecture (workshop) on leadership which was taken by Miss KRISHNA CHANDRE. She gave us a very good knowledge on what are the qualities required in a good leader, which was very useful for all of us. We got to learn that "A GOOD LEADER SHOULD BE A GOOD FOLLOWER", and various other qualities. We had a lecture on "VIPASHANA" which helped us in understanding ourselves in a better way. A lecture on 'Environment' was held which was taken by Mrs. SHREE LATA. She helped us in knowing our environment well. The lecture gave us knowledge about various trees & wildlife. The environment which is been harmed by us, how should we save it. We also had a lecture on Personality development which was very interesting .We got to learn new things about our mind & things going on inside, our thoughts, our ideas & so on.

The 7 day residential camp at Murbad was a great experience for each of the volunteers. Learning personality development, time management, camp management and other things were new and beneficial for every one of us. Also there, we met Samtol foundation which worked on supporting & helping children who basically are house-left due to personal reasons and try to find their living by begging and stealing or practicing other evil performances on the streets and railway station.

"SAMTOL FOUNDATION" worked hard towards these helpless children. During the camp, we got an "opportunity" to interact with those childrens and tried to help them at our best level by representing N.S.S. and trying to counseling them and make them understand about family love and care. We tried to find out information about their mother, father, family members, etc. which later can help them to re unite them with their family. We all were very happy that we did our bit toward those children.
